Im pretty sure at this point that I want my research topic to be on meditation and education. How it effects grades and overall performance in school. I want to look at if one improves there grades by meditating and if school becomes a bit easier for them. I would really like to make heart rate and blood pressure a part of my research as well and interpret it into the meditation and education. These topics really interest me so thats why I would love to make it all my research. Not sure if it would be to much to work on or even how I could put it all together. As of right now I have found a lot of good articles with meditation and education and only one on the effects of heart rate and blood pressure. This is the main reason why I want to do my research on meditation and education because I already have a lot of good information on it. I am still trying to come up with a really good thesis.
As of right now I have found some really interesting articles about leadership and sports. I have found numerous articles about athletes and leadership and one on coaches and leadership. I would really like to find more on coaches and leadership since coaches are the ones who choose leaders most of the time. One of the last articles I found used a leadership scale in order to relate the athletes and their leadership qualities or the qualities they desire in their leaders. I would like to look at this scale in more detail and hopefully use it for my research.
I am almost certain that I want to do my experiment on if people with tattoos experience more risky behavior, and I would like to also bring sexual activity into it as well. I think I want to make a survey or questionnaire and distribute it to random people that have tattoos, and people that do not have tattoos and compare whether people with tattoos tend to involve themselves in more risky behaviors and if they tend to have sexual intercourse sooner than people that do not have tattoos. I also was really interested in the culture aspect of tattoos, however that would be really hard for me to do at school because we don't have enough people from other cultures. I have a couple really good articles on my topic but I would defiantly like to get a few more, and get more information on past research articles involving tattoos and risky behavior.
At this point in time I am most definitely leaning towards personality types and how they correlate to the music that you listen to. Recently I have just been observing my colleagues listen to the music the beats through those white cords. Getting a sense of what people are listening to and how it makes them feel. Are the dancing along, singing the lyrics, what are their facial expression if they have any at. Basically just trying to test it out. I do not want to automatically fall into stereotypes and perceive a personality with a certain kind of music. I want to keep and open mind for this research so nothing in my mind is bias. As far as the articles go, I actually found a really good article with personality test that relate to music that I would love to use. I feel that these test are going to be very useful for me and my research. I still need to dig a little more and get a better feel on how to actually go about doing good research. I am excited to actually get the ball rolling and start figuring out the exact tests that I want to use and how I am going to format my data. But for the most part everything is looking good.
I have found some more research articles that look into romantic relationships and the proximity of the people involved. I still think I want to do a study on attachment in relationships and compare geographically close relationships and long distance ones. Using college students would be perfect for this because I remember a lot coming into school with their significant other away. I'm just not sure how to research this because it's kind of a personal thing and I'm just a student, not a professional. I also think the most ethical approach would be to start with a survey. So far all the studies I've read have done some type of questionnaire.
I have found 3 really good articles so far, have to step up the research. I did find a great article to share with Katie and another for Tanya. Katie here is the one I wanted to share with you: Three randomized experiments on the longitudinal effects of the Transcendental Meditation technique on cognition. Author: David W. Orme-Johnson and Kam-Tim So After reading what others have done, I am looking forward to getting into the actual experiment phase. Tonight will be an all out search for additional articles. I would like to find some articles on something called "Brain Gym", as I think this pertains to my topic as well. Lots of ideas, just need the time to put them all together.
